It was terrifying to go back to the OSRS gold Grand Exchange and see people who were wearing armor and wielding swords that appeared to use god-killing power to smash my gold-trimmed dragon armor and abyssal whip (that'd be pretty impressive if you played in the days of my youth the days of kids).
There were menus that were different, though it turns out the friendly folks at Jagex put in place a great deal of help for old players which included a traditional menu mode. In another nod towards old players, I delighted to learn that when I went to Lumbridge and spoke with Hans who is a cult NPC from the start, he could reward me with an oblong, five-, 10--, or fifteen-year old veteran's cape. The 15-year cape is something to see; it's got an ember of fire that burns at the lower part of the cape.
When I was overwhelmed, I chose to set a long-term ambition of mine: to master firemaking. Learning to master a skill takes numerous hours of repetitive motions to achieve level 99 (now 120 in a few skills), and doing so gives you the coveted cape of being a master. This cape is trimmed. It's bright.
It demonstrates the symbolism of whatever skill and even includes a hood to match. This group would eventually become one of the most famous artisans Gielinor has ever met including me and my arson My friend with his magic, and my brother with Cheap RuneScape gold (potion-making) the latter of which he chose because the skill cape appears like a weed.
