We fell short of our commitment to release Diablo
Jay [Wilson, former game director] was really focused on getting that D2R Items experience right, and Josh's primary concern was how can we further develop the experience? We had to make substantial changes to fulfill what Josh wanted to do, and it was one of those things where, when we've done this, there's no turning back. So there was some nervousness initially when we started to work on it, but the plan came together quite well."
What about Wilson Who was bombarded with thousands thousands of angry comments after the release of Diablo. "Josh worked closely in conjunction with Jay," says Mayberry. "I've been friends with Jay fora while. I've assisted in bringing Jay to Blizzard, I've known Jay for more than 20 years. I'm sure the fans would like to make up a rivalry between these two. There's nothing at all."
Nobody at Blizzard uses words like mistake or regret when it comes to Diablo The message seems to be clear to me The team has been quick to proclaim its virtues for what's changed but has not been seen as mourning the past.
"I I know that some feel we fell short of our commitment to release Diablo 'when it's finished"" posted Wilson on the Blizzard forums when the developer announced that he would step off Diablo at the start of 2013.
"While we're not perfect, we try at making the very best decisions that we can using the information and information we've got at the time. It doesn't mean that we will always make the right choice However, if we make mistakes, then I'm sure that we've made a significant effort to rectify it."
It's too early to tell what happens if Reaper of Souls will be received by those 280.000 vocal fans in a way the Diablo was the first time. Diablo wasn't. "It's hard to know exactly where ideas came from and what they didn't come from," adds Mayberry. "I think Jay was the one who faced buy d2r items the biggest challenge of just getting Diablo out. That caused a lot of stress for Jay, and I think Josh is the opposite. Josh to be honest, he's joined and has helped put the next layer of. I think together they've done an excellent job."
