Delivered a message to the RS3 staff
Are you fixing things in OSRS that were already fixed years ago? I'm curious, do you ever find yourself scouring through heritage RS3 code to see an old bug was repaired in RS2? We've sometimes done that. Take Barbarian Assault - about the launching of RS gold at 2013, we knew the minigame was vulnerable to gamers stealing its runes, since that had happened in 2008+. So we told players it would be opened after a few months when we'd fixed that, and secured the minigame. The dev doing this certainly lifted some code from RS3 for this, since we afterwards got reports that the Barbarians in OSRS had some dialogue about Constitution, which wouldn't have been present from the 2007 version!
Additionally, more recently, when adjusting some harness involving gnomeball, we delivered a message to the RS3 staff to check that they'd fixed it in their game, and they responded that I'd really done that myself, in about 2012, and forgotten all about it. So there's overlap, but it is relatively rare. But we do struggle with legacy systems occasionally, leading to the occasional rewrite - I rewrote the OSRS Slayer mission code around 2014-5, making it considerably easier to plug in a number of the updates players wanted, which was well worth it, but players needed to accept it took some time and had a few knock-on consequences on job chances.
I have a memory in my brain that outlandish, I'm not certain whether or not it really occurred. A million or so years ago, back in Runescape Classic, when fall parties were held at the upstairs of this Varrock Museum, I remember a time several months prior to RS2 was declared, when a Jagex Mod walked to the party from the opposite side of this wall (that was all black back in those days), also advised us about RS2 along with the sort of upgrades which were intended for it until it was made public knowledge.
This memory is vivid in my head, but I have no idea if to buy 2007 runescape gold really happened. I doubt the Jagex Mod involved still works for the business (after all, we're talking about 17 or so years back ), but does this sound like something that could have really happened, or am I just a crazy person who deluded myself into a false memory? I might imagine some staff with that age doing that, perhaps even to hype up enthusiasm for the launch. But I am afraid I did not work here myself at the moment, and I really don't know who it'd have been. Paul Gower - he was known to hang out sometimes, and sometimes teleport players to dance together with all the knights after RS2 launched.
