Hi Cheryl,

As you know I am studying for my MSc in Multimedia and eLearning at the University of Huddersfield. My day job is as elearning Curriculum Manager for Park Lane College Leeds where I have responsibility for strategising about the use of technology in teaching and learning and training / supporting tutors throughout implementation and use. It is good that I am able to access this site because so many 'social networking' opportunities are lost because of network blocks here!

offlineDave Foord (DaveFoord)
My name is Dave Foord, I have worked in the past at Loughborough College (sport science lecturer, ILT co-ordinator amongst others) and the University of Derby (e-learning staff development co-ordinator). I have recently set up my own company (www.a6training.co.uk) and although early days things are going well and I am just starting to get busy - so my contributions here may be sporadic.

I was lucky enough to be one of the early contributors to Moodle, so am interested in this, as if it works could become as big as Moodle....

Hi All,

My name is Alison Muirhead and I co-direct a research consultancy, Inspire Research Ltd (www.inspire-research.co.uk). We provide research, evaluation and consultancy services to the public and private sectors - the majority of our work relates to learning and particularly e-learning. I'm always interested to find out what new technologies are getting used for learning, and so am excited to see what Ecto has to offer!

Hi I am Carol Comer - academic development advisor for eLearning at the University of Chester, and taking part in a JISC funded project on PLE's at the moment. I also teach on 2 blended learning courses - an MA module in technology enhanced learning for staff at the University and also on a Foundation Degree in Health Informatics.

Currently constantly chasing my tail trying to 'keep up' with new developments - this one looks interesting though.....

Personally I prefer chocolate and wine to Marmite.

Hi, I'm Nina Jenkins - I am a Brit, but I am currently based in Canberra, Australia and working on the development of a Diploma level course on management of invasive animals (foxes, rabbits - even Kangaroos in some areas!). Our course will have students from across Australia, so e-learning is the ideal way to reach our far flung students. My interest in the best practice project and now this, is to try and get a handle on the kinds of tools that might work for us in our course delivery. Moodle is our platform at the moment - but maybe that could change??

We eat Vegimite here - I prefer it to Marmite but the jar is less attractive!

offlinedwyatt
I'm Diana Wyatt and I'm one of Cheryl's students on the Foundation Degree course in the Design and Development of E-learning at Huddersfield. We did a Web 2.0 module last year and as a direct result of that I have introduced wikis to our school (a comprehensive high school in Calderdale). I've also shown Ecto to our IT manager and he was quite interested. We're using Learnwise as our VLE and he was part of a working group in Calderdale to decide on a VLE that would be used in all the schools in the area. They decided on 'Frog'. He says he's now had a good look at 'Frog' and isn't impressed. I feel that sites like Ecto could change the way schools look at VLEs and could supercede them.
I don't eat Marmite now. I used to take Marmite sandwiches to school in Canada and my classmates felt sorry for me - they thought we couldn't afford a proper filling for the sandwich - just this thin brown line of gunk.

Hello, I'm Iona. I am the Head of International Student Centre at Staffordshire University. After reading your welcome message, I feel like an outsider as I have no background in IT at all. I am very interested in developing courses for e-learning though. Currently investigating the possibility of using Ecto for our Intercultural Mentoring project.

HI, I'm Jon Witts, another of Cheryl's students at Huddersfield. I came across this whilst taking a break from writing my current essay for Cheryl!

I am Director of ICT at South Hunsley School, a secondary school in the East Riding of Yorkshire. I also represent the East Riding of Yorkshire at the Yorkshire and Humber Grid for Learning, Collaborative Technologies group.

I am always kee n to look into new social software for education, and am committed to making South Hunsley the first school in the area with a completely Open Source MLE solution. (Having seen the RM solution and been distinctly unimpressed!)
